so clean, atmosphere so good!!
my one suggestion would be to try layering drum samples on the breaks to help the drums sound more punchy and cut through the mix a bit more (just a little I think would do wonders for the drums) Other then that it sounds really solid, good variation, good atmosphere and melodies, awesome job on this!

Thank you for this!! I will try it out :)

Really cool vibe here, drums are done really well. Mix-wise the pad to me feels a bit too quiet compared to the drums, however that may not be a bad thing if you're really going for a pure drum&bass feel where it's quite literally drum and bass.
I like the switch-up in the chorus and many breaks and little variations, really helps it stay interested while being repetitive.
Solid stuff, nice job!

thanks for the review!

Idk what mood i'd need to be in to listen to this but I'm sure I couldn't describe it with words.

my only suggestion would be to add a pad... or some sort of melodic thing.
(also the mixing, the parts that aren't the breakcore are much louder then the breakcore things and are like a jumpscare help--)

you good at programming breaks though, must admit.

Thanks
Those calm moments are not louder than the typical breakcore sections. They have a different maximum loudness but a similar LUFS level. That's because the breakcore moments are distorted, while the calm ones are not.

Amazing vibe and atmosphere built on this one, sounds really cool. It really puts the jungle in jungle, don't it? Does feel a bit top-heavy as far as mixing goes, you may want to consult reference tracks to make sure whatever you use to monitor isn't lying to you.
Does feel a bit repetitive, after awhile, doing stuff to vary it up, even just as simple as having a part have reverb and the other part dry can help spice it up and keep interest throughout the track. Even for a song designed to be repetitive, little things to change it up can really help it come alive!
Nice work overall though, love the vibes!

Thanks for the advice

Love the composition on this! The pianos and strings compliment the rest of the chaos so well. I deduct a star not because of the music itself but because of the mixing (and in someways the sound selection). Drums get lost in the mix aswell as other elements like the piano, serving to muddy the listening experience rather then add an element to it.
Drums could be helped by layering and also sidechaining more then just the bass and such.

Reason I say in someways this is sound selection related is because it would likely work better and be a lot easier to mix when you have sounds that don't clash with each other, or take up each other's space. As an example for giving elements enough space, one idea would be to take the main "pad" elements at 1:05 and transpose them down to take more of the midrange, so the piano at the top has room to breathe and can stand out as a lead part.
At 1:23 there are like, 3 elements all fighting for the high-range spots, being the piano, vocal, and strings/pad; two of those being lead parts. Use the whole spectrum; put some parts in mid-range, some in high-range, and don't overcrowd them! You can also use panning for extra space if needed. Overall the mix is high-end heavy and that needs to be tuned down a bit, and be given some mid-range.

Apart from that it sounds really nice, just gotta work on that mixing in my opinion.

Yes, thank you very much for such a feedback! Yes, I agree that it would be worth working on the mix, but I am not such a pro at making a good mix. Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it!

Cool stuff!
Arrangement for the drops do feel a bit off, drops could happen sooner and be more satisfying. Right now it feels like it fakes doing the drop, but then the drop doesn't even happen for like another full measure! So making the drop come in sooner both times could help with that.
Sound design/selection for the beginning synth and the bass could be better; the bass feels a bit too wet in the drops and the beginning lead synth seems a bit over-processed and perhaps a different sound would fit into the track better in general.

Other then that, everything else feels pretty solid! I do enjoy the background synth melodies, it adds a lot.

baryiscool responds:

i like wet basses for some reason
idk why people hate on them so much

also the begining of the song (the serum patch i made)
feels funky.. like old 1980s type dogshit synth
i love the detune on it so that's why it sounds a bit odd

normally my songs have faster drops but i like the tension it build when it doesn't just drop after 20 sec

The instrumentation, guitar work, synth work, and all that is really well done; but the drums kill it for me..
There's so much melodic and rhythmic stuff going on with the synths and guitars, so there isn't much room to focus on complicated rhythms. It doesn't feel like there's any rhythm from the drums to catch on to, and for a track like this that's important. To put it another way, the melodies and chords are complex, so the drums should be simple; otherwise it becomes too complicated and too much for the listener to pay attention to, which I think is the problem with this track. 1:37-1:49 and the final section at 3:16 work well because they are simple to understand, compliment the music, and are predictable, where a lot of the rest of the track's drums feel unpredictable or even random.
If drums were fixed, easily 5 stars

VeryInactive01 responds:

the track's pretty old, I was hella worse in music prouction stuff when I made it lol
thanks for the honest opinion though, I am too aware of how ba the perc was, I'd definitely work on it more than I di back then

This style is really amazing.
I really want to learn how to make music like this...

Only flaw I see with this is some of the mixing and how overly compressed it is. Else, full 5 stars. Really relaxing and good composition.

LLAAPPSSEE responds:

Thanks tons for listenin', man. I sorta cultivated my own thing over the years. Takes time.
Listen to a lot of IDM/Glitch/Ambient/Breakcore/Breakbeats/Jazz/Funk (if you're not already) and it might rub off on you?
Then again, I hear stuff all the time and I'm like "I wanna do something like THAT" and my brain just never goes to those places. End of the day, I just make what I make and try not to force it too much. Just trying to add my own voice to this whole human art experience/collective.

Yeeaaahh, my mixing may have gotten a bit sloppyish as the years have worn on. Was a period of time where I didn't have anything but monitoring headphones after my old speakers failed me.

I love the drum programming and sounds on this track, good stuff. I feel it could benefit from some chord changes, but if the intent of the music is to be more background rather then the forefront, it's fine.
I would appreciate some additional parts, I really like the drop and I want to hear more of the break but with variation and switch-ups.. this is really a matter of taste, because I can understand artistic intent and such, but this track definitely makes me feel wanting more of the drop style of stuff.
Mix is not fine, however. Listening on headphones the bass is fine, but with a subwoofer the bass is overwhelming. I recommend finding popular tracks and using them as a reference, and base your mix off of that, that way you won't end up with problems like that on frequencies you normally can't hear very well on headphones.

Thanks for feedback :) il do betters
